I keep reading in post after post about the new grads who are having a horrible time finding jobs--nurses who are desperate and willing to work just about anywhere in any setting. Well I am in Rochester NY and funny thing is I am wondering if the new grads here are graduating and leaving NY.......cuz let me tell you. If you are able and willing to move there is work for new grads here. In hospitals. I just came accross this post today.
Job Title: RN-ASPN I/New Graduate Nurse (MAY 2011 Graduates)
Department: RECRUITMENT MANAGEMENT
Employment Type: Full Time
Work Shift: Day/ Evenings/ Nights
Work Week: Rotating
Experience:
No experience required. Licensed by New York State to practice as a Registered Nurse. Must have passed NYS NCLEX examination prior to start date.
This post is from Highland Hospital in Rochester NY and they also have more. There are also jobs for new grads at other local hospitals here, as well as jobs for experienced nurses and a lot for nurse leaders and nurses managers. So Anyone who really wants a job, I wanted to pass along the word. There are Three major hospital systems in the area and lots of need for nurses. One even does a new grad Critical Care training program.

How nice of you to post your encouragement! :) I hope new grads know they are not bound by the state they graduated in but can move to go to where the jobs are!

yeah, i've seen some newbies on floors, but the folks in hr say for every one newbie opening there are HUNDREDS of applicants from all over the place.
yes, there are jobs for newbies, but there aren't enough of them to even soak up the new grads that are being spit out of schools, it's been this way for around 2 yrs now.
it will get better, but it's gonna take years.

I'm glad that there are a few bits of encouraging news out there. Thank you for posting this information.
I did notice, however, that the employer for the first job you listed is looking for someone who will graduate this coming May. And the applicant will be expected to pass NCLEX before starting the job. Realistically, that means this job will not start until sometime in June 2011 at the earliest. Which makes one wonder if they would consider a Dec. 2010 grad or even a May 2010 grad who has passed NCLEX and would like to start working a little sooner.
Still, something is better than nothing.

This is 8 hours and 54 minutes away from me. I wish I had the resources to relocate.

It's funny because I HATE the snow and I live in Northern NJ. I'm trying to move down to Texas BUT I did find a critical care internship up in Rochester that I'm looking to apply to. So, I guess when you're desperate (or want to make certain to have SOMETHING lined up), you'll try anything.
Thanks for posting! :)

I've been looking for a way to post this list of job opening for MetroHealth in Cleveland. I guess it goes along with this post...considering the snow and all! You may have to create an account but that is easy to do. These are all external job postings, meaning current employees have already had their stab at them, and now they are taking outside applicants! Good luck in your job searches!!! P.S. if anyone could guide me along in how to post this as a new topic, I would be willing to do so! Thanks!

This is funny because because at this moment I have about a foot of snow on top of about two inches of ice covering my driveway. My "driveway" is nearly a half mile long. In the morning I'm going to have to fire up the John Deere and clear this mess off. Now if the county would just come clear the road out of here it would be nice.
Good luck on the internship. If you still want to move to Texas know that there are nearly 600 hospitals here and about 1100 LTCs. There's openings here if you're willing to dig deep enough to find them.

We also have positions at my hospital. Granted, it's not an acute hosptial but is skilled LTC and Chronic Care. (Sounds worse than it is. LOL). It's also for the State of Maryland will full state benefits from day 1. We are located in Salisbury, Maryland which is 30 miles from Ocean City, MD. Lots of great experience and basically have lots of "sub acute" care patients. Doesn't have the glamour of an acute care hospital but you won't be working in a hamburger joint with a nurse degree either. We have to fill in with agency nurses because we can't fill the positions.
Try expanding your horizons because there are jobs out there for new grads and experienced nurses too. Good luck.

I don't know what the actual nursing market is like in Texas, but I recently accompanied a girl friend to a nationally renown cancer center in Houston, Texas. I just could not believe it-you cannot turn your gaze 20 degrees without spotting a hospital. Children hospitals, heart hospitals, rehab hospitals, women's health hospitals, it goes on and on. There are SO MANY hospitals in just this one small area of Houston. I have to think this would be a promising area for nurses.
Perhaps someone from Houston can elaborate.

How much do they pay new grads in NY? I graduate in May and am willing to relocate from Ca.

I live in Buffalo. Wish I could go there, except I'm bound by contract to my LTC for them paying for school. They don't even have any opening for RNs in the company.
