I just graduated from nursing school. Yes, I am in the same bind as most of us. NO JOBS! Soon after my preceptorship ended I found myself showing signs of withdrawl from lack of patient care. I found Rock Med, these are volunteers who use their particular medical skill set to treat concert patrons. A whole lot of fun, and hard work.
Here is my issue. Will working under my RN license disqualify me for new grad oppurtunities? Will the experience gained from this work count as nursing expierence? Should I emphsize this work on my resume? Or, should I down play it? Any advise would be appreciated.

I am not sure if it counts towards new grad status but I would definitely include it on a resume, volunteering will look good and you are still using skills which is good. I personally don't see how it can hurt.

It didn't hurt me - I volunteer at a free clinic and was just hired as a new grad RN. In fact, I think having the volunteer experience made me a better applicant for the job.
Best of luck to you!

Well, for my one classmate that moved back to Cali she told me in a group interview for a new grad position a woman with 20 year experience was there and people at the group interview think she got the position.

Whoa! That looks like an awesome experience! How'd you find that? I'd love to do something like that, I'm in the LA area. LMK if you know of anything like that down here, and have fun!

Jelly, you should start something up!! (Like you've got time, right??) They've been around the bay area for a long time, started as the haight-ashbury free clinics I believe. I'm just about to work my first show as an EMT this Friday!
