I've been reading the posts here and I want to say congrats to all you graduates! I also have been reading about you guys having a tough time finding employment which is to me since I thought nursing was one profession you can always depend on.
Well... have you guys heard discussions about when jobs will start coming back for nurses? Im starting school in the fall but Im terrified of coming out without a job in two years!

I started nursing school this fall and I hope the economy gets better soon too. In the meantime, all I can do is just focus on making it through the program and start applying for jobs next year.

It's true that not having a job after graduating seems daunting, but honestly, even the healthcare industry is just another fish in the economic food chain. Nothing is guaranteed and sometimes it's hard to believe that's true for nursing since it seems like EVERYONE will ALWAYS need nurses. The future knows no boundaries so I'd recommend becoming diligent in starting networks with nurse managers through your clinicals, go to job fairs or conferences and start looking into new grad RN programs in your area.
It's better to remain realistic about this situation than to keep our heads in the clouds thinking that everything will be okay for nurses. No one knows when the job market will open up and it may surprise us when we least expect it. Just think smart, not hard, about your future and be proactive in your career search! That way, everything will fall right into place and you'll be glad that you were well prepared!
Good Luck!
