Will I Ever Make It??

Published

I have wanted to be a nurse since I was in the fifth grade. There is in my opinion not a more rewarding job in the world. I just could not ever get up the confidence to finally get my butt in college, I was deathly afraid (social anxiety) and to make matters worse I had some so called friends telling me I wasn't cut out for it anyway. Well I kind of proved them wrong by going and finally registering at a community college. It has been about 2 years now and I only have about 24 credits, and recently turned 26. I am married and wish I could just get this over with so that I could start a family. Most have told me just to go ahead with the LPN program but I feel I would be selling myself short ( I am in not saying it is bad to be an LPN)and then wasting even more time going back to get my BSN. My question is if I am having such a difficult time with gen ed's now how will I ever get accepted into the program anyway? Has anyone here had the same problem, how did you make it through? Any schools worth considering? BTW I used to be an Esthetician, are their alot of opportunities to work with a Dermatologist/ Plastic surgeon out there?

Thanks in advance!

hang in there and make sure you get your grades up! There is a light at the end of the tunnel. Age is not a factor. I am about to turn 24 and finishing my first semester at a university in southern Ill. next semester I have Chemistry and Biology. I have to smoke those classes in order to get into a decent Nursing program back in Chi-town(home). Just keep your head high and keep going to school. Also, take more classes! go get that ADN!!

You could check to see if your college accepts CLEP credit. Since it's a community college, I'm betting they do. www.collegeboard.com to search for your college, then go to your college's web site and search for a CLEP policy file.

It's a great way to speed through the gen eds and get to the heart of your program. I'd be happy to help you if I can, I took (and passed!) 12 CLEP exams when I earned my BA. It took me 2 months and I earned 45 credits that way. It's not nearly as hard as it sounds, and the exams are all multiple choice and scored as pass/fail. (no grade)

Thank you, but I plan on going to chamberlain University but I will see what I can do.

I have always wanted to become a nurse too; I remember a lot of people telling me that I will not be able to make it. I was 3 years at Harper College in Palatine. It is a very competitive school. I remember people telling me that I didn’t have a good chance of getting in to their program, I applied for their fall 2009 program and I received my acceptance letter!! Yay!! I got in!! I was determined to prove people wrong and I did! Now the only problem is getting through the program!! But if you truly want it you can definitely accomplish it!! Good luck and don’t give up.
