I work nites on a med surg floor for 4months. I have missed a couple orders that were not entered during the day when I did chart checks. Also the nite head nurse said that I signed a chart that an order was not signed off, but I did not enter the order. I signed it but I thought you only sign off an order if you entered it? I know they are not big things but still when I give report the AM nurse says Why is the EEG order not entered you did chart checks? All I had to say was your right I did not see that little EEG on the side of the page, either did the girl that entered the entire page of orders. It bothers me the rest of the day. Not sure if I will ever get everything down.
THanks for listening

Hey emilysmom,RN,
Even seasoned nurses make mistakes. Try to learn from them, not repeat them and definitely cut yourself some slack. :)

I agree with Jules: At the end of the day or the shift, did all your patients survive? Have you left them a wee bit better than when you first came on? Meaning: do you show compassion, empathy, emotional support when needed, caring. Did you act professionally and tried to be judgmentally non-judgmental? Did you attempt to carry out all orders as written to the best of your ability?
Hold your head high. There will be better days and worse ones, as well.

Thanks, I had a better nite. I think it was the group I had because the nurse that had the same group last nite had a very hard nite too.
THanks again
