Why is it a struggle right before summer break?

I came from a hospital setting to school nursing.  Why is it that we are so ready for summer break????  We never had a 8 week break at the hospital and we survived!  We have 5 more days and I feel like I won't make it!  Funny how, in 5 years, I have become a burned out mess right before summer break.  Anyone else have an insight to this?

I think we mentally mold to our environment. School breaks are strategically place (IMHO) for both the kids and our benefit!!! We work really hard, often with no one else to bounce things off of...it takes a toll. I know I am SO ready!!!! And Ill be ready to retun in Sept!

For me the end of the year is a bizarre period.  We have a lot of kids out for field trips/done with finals/volunteer events.  The teachers are a little done with teaching so the little kids are getting more play time which means more injuries.  For hours I'll see not a single kid then all of a sudden I have 7 crying children in the office.  Also the sun is shining and my two sisters who are teachers are already out of school...so my jealousy is running high.  We still have 2 weeks left, but I'm watching that light at the end of the tunnel.

Investment, I think for me. You see these kids through so many things and it is hard not to take a piece of it with you - the emotional drain is real for me, even 6 years in. Also I work at a charter and often a 9-10 hour day due to extended school day, so those hours add up and add up when there is no recovery time for 5 days straight.

And parents are just exhausting. Kids with no coping strategies for a headache that started 3 minutes ago because the classroom was loud (MS kids tell me this all the time).

But I also watched the senior slide show today and teared up.

Yet, there is a countdown on my door. Including today, there is 10 more actual days of school left, including 2 half days. I. am. so. ready.

the struggle is real right at the end of the year.  Trying to close out the year and the nonsense parade keeps flowing through the door.  Really?!  I just can't.  By now we should all know that no, i'm not going to do anything for your sniffy nose.  I can't give you medicine, no, i'm not going to send you home with 1/2 an hour left for a headache, tough it out.  I think because the teachers are burned out and are just sending everyone for everything without regard for the fact that I have end of the year work to do too, it's frustrating.

This is so awesome to hear. I'm winding up my first year and the kids are just tearing each other apart.  Top it off with one particular teacher who tries to palm off a behavior problem on me, well....grrrrr.
