In my area, every school has a different pre test. All range from $30 -$100 dollars. Not to mention their study guides. I applied to several schools. Hopefully the profession will become streamlined. But seriously I get the diffenrent accrediting agencies but sheesh.
I'm one proficent test taker now. Even scored a perfect 100 on the biology section....shocked myself with that one
How many test have you all taken?
How'd you do overall?

I seriously think that having different tests at different schools allows some schools to limit the number of applications they recieve for a particular class. I often wonder the same thing about pre-reqs. Most schools require the standard A&P, Micro, and Gen Chem, but some schools have one or two odd ball requirements like general sociology, speech, or medical terminology. Such requirements (testing and pre-reqs) really forced me to limit the number of schools I applied to!
I agree, one school wants physiopath...........no other school gives that class but them and its really $$$$$. One school recently changed from wanting the GRE to the TEAS...:uhoh3:
Sounds like you are applying to 2nd bachelor's programs or direct entry programs too?
So far I've taken the NET and TEAS V. My overall scores were comparable, but my Reading score on the TEAS was much lower than on the NET!
I really wish nursing would become more streamlined too.

Yeah, it seems like just about every school in my area has a different program-entrance exam that you have to pass in order to be selected. I've taken the PSB-LPN 3 times before I got over the score that I needed for the program. It was $20 every time you had to take it. So I paid $60 in the end for it.

my school switched test about a year ago from the net to the hesi last year they didn't really have a set score because they didn't know much about the test now they are thinking about changing the test again. Most of my friends in the program say the test is kind of a waste of time because they are still having problems with students being weaker in the math area
I understand what you're saying. I also struggled with the math portion and in that sense, I do feel the test os kind of a waste, considering the lack of math skills needed. I believe I can overcome the struggles I have with math in the end, but I still get your point. I guess it does weed out some, for most of these tests have a limit on how many times you can take it. I suppose their main purposes is to see if you have what it takes to succeed in the program, even if certain areas will continue to be a struggle.
I do feel they are a waste of time for the most part though. I know some colleges in other cities around my area who don't even use a test to be selection-eligible.
i feel as though it shouldn't! The top nursing schools in our state do not use the test only the private sector schools do. At the end of the day if they can handle the pre-req load and excel and they write a very good essay then they should be considered. Not a 40 to 100 dollar test that half of the teachers couldn't even pass. *LIGHT BULB* they should make the teachers take the exam impromptu and see how pointless it is.

I have tested on three different nursing entrance exams : Tabe D, Teas and The Hesi.
I would love if it was just a standard test. I spent 100 to take the Teas paid 50 for the book, Tabe was free... but depending where its taken up to 40.00!! The Hesi I believe was 10 but you can use ypur scores for a year I think. After studying and searching this site for entrance exam help and what not I noticed that we all get so stressed about a different test and its all the same!! My huband laughs at me all the time when Iam in entrance exam mode. I liked the Hesi out of all tests, I think because you can log on to the website and it will help you with the areas you need more knowledge.
I agree..... I bet some teachers wouldnt pass it either! But they already have thier degree so they wouldnt have to test anyways... But a Freaky Friday would be interesting
