Why your school pushes Kaplan and do you need it for NCLEX?

Published

If your school is anything like mine was, they are going to be pushing Kaplan from day one. They will probably even bring in Kaplan representatives near the end of nursing school to offer you a "deal".

200, 300, 400 bucks is not a deal to me, not after I just spent all this time and money on nursing school!

My fellow classmates stared at me in shock when I said NO to Kaplan's NCLEX course.

The more students from your school that pass NCLEX makes your school look better, so of course they want you to take Kaplan, especially if most of your instructors are lousy.

I did not fall for the Kaplan "scam" so to speak. I simply bought a used Kaplan book on Amazon and you know what it taught me? How to eliminate answers! Umm... I already knew how to do that!

I passed NCLEX. :)

Think it over long and hard before you take Kaplan, its expensive and in my eyes not totally necessary unless you're a poor student.

We get signed up for Kaplan as part of our tuition. Each class has several kaplan tests assoiciated with it that we need to take before we take the final exam in that class. You can go through them as many times as necessary to get the minimum grade. They are a good adjunct to the courses, whether I would pay extra at the end of the program for a review, I don't know.

Yeah, if its free or included then its a good deal, otherwise, nooooo. :)

For my school, it's ATI. But like the PP, it's included in the tuition.

The entire course is $500 and every quarter we make a payment on it. The Kaplan is used at the end of each quarter to show where we stand nationally. It is also used as part of our final exam grade each quarter.

I think the only reason why we have to take these stupid Kaplan tests is for the administration to see where the instructors fall short.

I was the same way before I graduated last year. I think a review like that works for some, but I knew I didn't need it. Just studied my nclex review books and passed first try. I would have a problem having to pay for this if I didnt want it

We took ATI during school, and we did the week long Kaplan review between the last day of class and graduation. All fees were included in our tuition. No opt out option was made available. If we did not attend all the Kaplan sessions, and do 5/7 online tests during that week the program director would not release our transcripts to the BON.

I don't think it helped me much. I was already a strong test taker, and Kaplan's method just muddied the waters.
