Who's done their PRT/PFA already?

Just checking to see who has done their PRT/ PFA (Physical Readiness Test/ Physical Fitness Assessment)? Did mine on Saturday and did O.K.

Sit-ups - 94

Push-ups - 75

Run - 11:19

Total: Excellent Medium

Not too bad for 34 yrs-old and not training really. There was a wicked head wind off the water at the Naval Academy where we did it too. I was 1 sit-up and 4 seconds on the run away from Excellent High, get it next time. How'd everyone else do? If you don't know what I'm/we're talking about, let us know.

Hello LCDR Dan,

I did my record Army physical fitness test within days of arrival at officer basic leadership course. However at 41 years of age the test requires less repititions to reach the max of 100 per event. I scored 242 out of 300 so, that is "Pass", (personally I think it is only mediocre to okay for myself.) Thankfully, I passed.

This also leaves me plenty of room to try to improve. I did 100 on my run time, 82 on my pushups, (can improve that plenty and want to!) My situps suprised me by being my worst event, I barely made over the minimum. Now I realize that doing them immediately after the pushups makes it much tougher and now I know to practice for that too!

Good job!! The Army and Air Force do it differently then we do. My friend in grad school was trying to explain it to me, it very different. How often do you have to do yours? We do a PRT/PFA every 6 months.

Great job back to you! :)

Yes, we also have to do it q six months and I can hardly believe that I may as well go ahead and do it again already, (due in February but, I may as well do it before its too late!)

We have two minutes per event, starting with the pushups, then moving on to the pushups immediately followed by the two mile run.

Simple, right?

Hey, job well done on your APFT Gen and LCDR Dan!

Say, I'm looking for hints on doing a better job on my darn sit-ups. Having a wee bit of trouble, I struggle to make the minimum (29) at my ripe old age, hahaha. I like to blame my kids (had three C-Sections) but groan, its all me...

So, any training tips from you two (or anyone else out there!) would be so accepted by me.

Gen, thanks for keeping us up to date on how your OBLC went. I have my packet in to go AC. Also getting my packet ready for the Reserve CAPT Boards so I have a lot on the table, as it were.

I just came back from doing another SRP, this time at the 9th RRC out in Pittsburg, PA. A few of the troops from my TPU have either been MOB 'ed out or Deployed. Our METL (7238th IMSU) is to be a "filler" "Good to Go Where ever the Need Is"

Anyway, in case I don't get a chance to email again, y'all have a safe and peacefully Thanksgiving.

I'm about 3 hours from Pittsburgh, I'm near DC in WV. As for the sit-ups, I got a free-standing type "gym" that you can do pull-ups, dips, lunges and all on. It came with a sit-up bar as well. For me, it's mainly repetition and practice. I get up 15 min. early in the AM to do push-ups and sit-ups. I do them until tired, usually about 50 of each being first thing in the morning. However, the constant repetition gets the muscles "trained" to perform the exercise. When it comes time for the real thin you can usually push past your norm and achieve a higher score. Sorry I can't be more help, it works for me.

Happiest Holidays to you Athena55,

Someone gave me some very helpful advice for my sit ups and that was to actively use my hip flexors. She told me that the sit ups are NOT all your abs but, your hip flexors can do much to ease the burden on the ab muscles when it comes to pulling you up!

Hope it helps. :)
