WHNP in NYC

Published

Hi NP's out there...I'm a new grad RN (out of school for almost a year) and working on a busy PedsOnc unit in NYC. I have NA experience in OB and want to go back this field and eventually maybe go for a WHNP or CNM or both (Columbia has a combined program.) My question is, is there a big market for this role in urban areas, spec. NYC? There is almost no info available for salaries or availabilities in hospitals for this position. Are there any NP's out there that have any info/advice? Thanks so much!

Check out these sites for job listings. It will give you an idea if jobs are available where you live or in a place where you might be willing to relocate to.

I initially was accepted into Frontier's CNM program but have change my course track to FNP. As much as I love the idea of focusing on Women's Health, the job market where I live does not support this endeavor. I will not be in a position for 8 years to move elsewhere. For me FNP made more sense right now in my life. Makes me a bit more marketable where I live. But also keep in mind, I live in an area of the country where CNM's are NOT supported and the jobs are few and far between.

Good luck!!!
