hi everyone, new member here. i am applying to get into a nursing program for the fall 2011, and was wondering what experienced people thought was the hardest part of nursing school? i have heard the last year is the hardest/most stressful. i've been in the paramedic program at algonquin in ottawa, where the first year is the hardest. just wondering what info i can get here, so that i can be prepared! thanks!!

mary, from ontario (ottawa)

I would say first year. Not just the subjects per se, but adjusting to new environment, deciding if you really like the course you are taking, making friends.

It's impossible to say which year is the hardest. It varies not only from school to school, but also from person to person.

In my program (Laurentian) many people felt 2nd year was the hardest because it is heavily science-based, but I have always done well in math/science and felt 2nd year was an absolute breeze compared to 3rd year which was almost completely theory.

I am in my 2nd year right now, and unfortunately, it seems to me that it is always the year you are going into..

Depends on the individual.

First year you usually have full course load BUT may not if you have other college/university diploma's or degrees THEN you can hopefully be EXEMPT from electives.

Second year you have more sciences.

Third year you have more papers/assignments.

Fouth year I found less assignments AND enjoyed the practicuum. We had to choose a med/surgical and specialty area.

I graduated from Laurentian with a BScN.

Hope this helps.
