Which stethoscope color to choose?

Published

So I recently accepted a position in a hospital in the ER! I am really excited. The stethoscope I've been using isn't the greatest one and I am buying a LittMann. I had a Littmann during nursing school but ended up losing it at clinical. (Left it on the floor, next day it wasn't there :( )

Anyways, the stethoscope I owned after that isnt that great. I decided to purchase the Classic III since it has a dual diaphragm for both peds and adults. I'm stuck between to color options and wanted opinions. I've never seen either color in person so I'm not sure if they differ from the pictures.

Littmann Classic III Stethoscope: Breast Cancer Pink Edition 5631 - Littmann Stethoscopes

or

Littmann Classic III Stethoscope: Pearl Pink 5633

Which would you pick? The pink or pearl pink?

Thanks!!

Side Note: Yes, I am getting it engraved this time lol.

Apparently you don't need a stethoscope since you're only a nurse. Only doctors use them.

Ask Joy Behar.

I like the pearl pink

If I were you, I would wait to buy a new one, because Littman is coming out with a stethoscope just for nurses. They plan to make them in colorful plastic, with stickers and glitter. Personally, I can't wait! This will accessorize my nurse costume much better than the clunky old doctor stethoscopes.

Whatever you choose don't waste your money on engraving. Those stethoscopes (in all colors) are a dime a dozen and a tiny millimeter sized engraving is NOT going to stop someone from walking off with it.

The breast cancer pink is a gorgeous vibrant pink. My sister has is and we both love it. The pearl pink I've seen others have it seems to get dingy looking rather fast.

Color is irrelevant unless you are trying to deter theft: a friend of mine has one in safety orange. Probably the least popular color made, but it is so obviously HERS and NO ONE else has one, lol....so if anyone decided to pick it up and walk away with it...well, it's clearly stolen ;)

I happen to have a plum one I like; don't see it often. When I worked the floor, it also never left my body! And I second the pointless engraving: a colleague of mine had her name engraved on it, and when it disappeared, it happened to show up a year later on another unit. Engraving didn't stop the theft (or,as the explanation went, the "mistake" of picking up the wrong one). I suppose you could argue that the engraving could prove it was hers (a year later), but no one disputed it WAS hers anyway. She just took it back.

I ordered the pearl pink one but ended up changing my order to the breast cancer pink since someone said the pearl pink ends up looking "dingy" after a while lol. Thanks for all your input everyone!

I actually ordered the pearl pink but changed it to the breast cancer pink after seeing your comment lol. I should receive it in the mail tomorrow! I'm excited!

Pink is not my thing - too girly for me. I have had a Littman for years (hubby purchased it for me when I graduated from nursing school. Forest Green. My name and year of graduation is engraved on it. I can't tell you the number of times I've pulled it off a Dr's neck as he/she was headed out the door. One (Aparticularly arrogant female doc) asked me "How do it know it's yours? Does it have your name on it? "Why Yes, It does :roflmao:

I liked the cardiology III. I have the classic II SE and I liked it during nursing school. It didn't use a diaphragm on the bell though but my cardiology III has the diaphragm.

I disagree with the engraving but I learned to keep my stethoscope in my pockets otherwise it will disappear.

I wouldn't buy the lighter colors. My ex's mom told me that the pink stethoscopes became grayish due to being exposed to skin, oil, dirt, etc but I don't know how true that is. She was in infection control with no floor experience.

Since then, I've gone with Caribbean green and black. I am thinking about getting a navy stethoscope or possibly an all black one. (retiring my cardiology III for a master cardiology and giving my classic II to my sister).

Get whatever color you like! I love purple, so I went with that.
