She can only use her license from Texas in Texas. But she can always apply for a license in any state you go as far as I know. Each state has its own board and they have their own regulations.

There is the Nurse Licensure Compact (www.ncsbn.org) where if you have your primary residence within one of those states that are part of the company, a nurse can practice on the "home" license...so your wife will need to have a primary residence and a license from that state. Otherwise, once she has her LVN, and you move from state to state...all she needs to do is contact the state board of nursing and fill out an application by endorsment. Once one gets an RN/LVN license in a state, you can practice in any state...just have to fill out paperwork and pay the licensing fee.
Thanks for your help

If there is a hospital on the base you are going to she can work at that hospital or at a VA with her Texas license. She would not have to get another states license. The federal governmnet requires only licensure in any state to work at it's facilities.

Not all military hospitals accept civilian nurses. Some stateside do, but more often than not they find it more cost effective to utilize their Med Tech's and RN officers. I know that overseas it's VERY difficult to get a civilian nursing position in military hospitals. When I lived in Turkey on an AF base I worked in the hospital as an executive assistant because they did not offer civilian nursing positions in that hospital.
As for Texas nursing licenses, if she applies for the Nurse Compact Licensure she'll be eligible to work in 21 states without having to relicense. If you happen to get stationed in a state other than the 21 in the NCL, then she will just have to pay a fee for endorsement and apply for a license in whatever state you reside in.
If you end up stationed overseas, unless she gets lucky and can get a job with DoD or DoDDS as a WIC or school nurse, she will likely have a difficult time finding a nursing job.
Good luck!

Since he posted this just shy of six months ago, I'm guessing it's a done deal now!
It's possible, but usually orders come out around 6 months prior to relocation. I was just offering my point of view in the event they were still working things out. :)
