Hi All! I recently received as a gift the green "Saunders Q&A Review for the NCLEX-RN examination, edition 3. copyright 2006." It has a disk with it, and total of over 5000 questions.
On the back of the book it lists other titles and one that caught my eye is the blue Comprehensive Review for the NCLEX-RN Examination--4 Color Reprint, 3rd Edition"
Now I'm wondering if the book I have is the Saunders book that everyone talks about, or is the blue one the right one? Or does it really matter? Do I need both??
I'm taking my NCLEX in June or July but I want to get going with the review questions now to help me during my final semester (med-surg).
(I have the Kaplan book, the Nursing Made Incredibly Easy review book, the Nursing 3000 CD and the Cliff's Notes reveiw book.Out of those, the Nursing 3000 CD is what I like best and the Cliff's Notes is what I like least.)
If anyone knows if either Saunders book is better than the other please let me know! :)

Sounds like the same Saunders Question + Answer book I have...although mine is yellow, nonetheless, I think you got the same book. It's an awesome book. I studied a lot from that book and a few others and I just recently passed the NCLEX.

Saunders books are the best! I even use them to study for all my theory exams. I have the Saunders Q&A and the Comprehensive Edition 2. Now I am going out to buy the 3rd edition since you have it!!! :lol2:
This one is all q and a. I just took a 10 question quiz and got 90% and a 100 question quiz and got 78%. I am not sure where that fits into how well one will do on the NCLEX but its heartening to know I am doing as well as I did!

I prefer the Comprehensive Review. It is more detailed and provides a comprehensive review just as its name implies. It is also more of a resource book than the Q and A.
Thanks Suzanne! I know that you have a Saunders program and I trust your judgement. I guess the review book goes on my Christmas list!
Yeah, I agree with you!
Don't ge tme wrong, the Q and A is great, but it is just that. It doesn't include a review that is needed by many for certain areas to read up on that your instructors did not cover in class, or that you did not understand.
Personally, I think that every nursing student in their second year of clinicals should have the Comprehensive Review.:)
You bring up excellent points. I know that there will be things that we just didn't cover and I can see how the other book will augment the one I have! :)
EDIT: Suzanne, do you know how to tell the correlation between how well one does on Saunders review exams and how well one might do on the NCLEX?

I have the Saunders Comprehensive Review for the NCLEX-RN® Examination and I love it.
I use it to review for class tests and stuff too... so I know what's most important to focus on. One of my friends who took the NCLEX this summer said she thought this Saunders book was too easy though, that the actual NCLEX was much harder.
I also have Medical-Surgical Nursing Reviews and Rationales that I use a lot.
If you learn the basics and their rationales from the Comprehensive Review, then you will not have any issues with the priority questions on the NCLEX exam. The most important thing is to know what the exam is looking for and to learn the material, do not memorize it. Know how to use it.
I designed my program around that book, as I have seen the best results with it. My program was originally designed for international students that were overseas, and only had funds to purchase one book. This gave the best results, and happy to say that each and everyone of them passed the first time. So it also says something aobut the book, they were able to understand the rationales quite easily, and English was not their primary language. Some did not eve speak English when they started with me. Had to teach that as well.
