Hello. I was thinking about buying a PDA for nursing school but I can't decide if it will be useful or not. I also don't much about them. I need to know which brand would be the best one to purchase.

I am not sure a PDA would be all that helpful. You will need to memorize allot of material and do allot of work from written references. Save the money because you will have allot of other expenses, and treat yourself to a new PDA upon graduation.

Before you start shopping around, decide what you want it to do for you. Don't just buy one because you think it would be nice, You need to do your homework. Otherwise you'll be wasting your money.

I do have one & don't regret it. For me carrying around a PDA is so much easier than dragging my drug book, a dictionary, lab values book, etc like my classmates do.

I never give advice about which PDA to buy. It's so individual, just like buying a car.

I have to disagree; I just finished third semester and mine comes in very handy I have Tabers and Mosby's drug guide in it; it helps at clinicals and studying on the go;

Thanks for all the replies. I was thinking about the Palm One Tugsten E2. Does anyone own one of them and what do they think of it?

Thanks Again!

I have a very old Palm Zire PDA, which I loaded up with Skyscape software on a separate SD card...I, like you, wasn't sure how much I would be able to use a PDA as a student (I'm nearly finished, and I truly used it alot), so I bought a very cheap, re-furbished one for $49.00, and bought the nursing software on SD cards so if I liked using a PDA, I could transfer the software to a newer one when the old-timer pooped out. I found a PDA invaluable in nursing school....do get one!

I too constantly use my PDA. I keep it in my pocket at clinical. Has Tabers and Davis Drug guide and Lab Tests on it. I have a file on it where I keep all the other random info and codes I need for clinical.

I use it a lot during class too. When a word or a drug comes up that I don't know or remember I can just quietly look it up without disrupting the class.
