Where do I need to start?

I am a 32 yr old male in Indianapolis,Indiana, And i have wanted become involved in an aspect of healthcare. I have done some research and Im still lost as to what is out there, I know i see alot of RN jobs everyweek in the news paper, but to be an RN that requires alot of school I think, I also looked into radiological tech but dont see alot of opportunites in the job market, also would consider Ob/gyn or maybe something in the x ray field, I have always worked in a maintenance environment, ( building, automotive) but i feel like I am smarter than just doing grunt labor for the rest of my life. Anyone know a way to find out which study is right for me?

At my community college there was some type of aptitude testing you could do that would point you in a few directions given your answers to the questions about what you like and are interested in. RN's can have a 2 year degree OR a 4 year degree but the reality is that most 2 year degrees take longer than the given 2 years d/t the pre-req's and the waiting lists. In my area the 4 year schools all have waiting lists now too.

Why don't you call a career counselor at a local community college and talk to them? They might help you clarify. Good luck!

You could become a nursing assistant ;). That will give you access to doctors and therapists, whom you could talk to/interview. Plus, it gives hands-on experience.

Talking to a career counselor seems very appropriate where more options can be laid out to you. Your 32. You're not old...but, you're not 18 with more time on your side. Let us know what you come up with.

Physical therapists get paid well and are in demand.

I would not recommend starting out as a nursing assistant.

I would consider whatever types schooling are available in your area.

The radiologist tech programs are good and the

graduates are in demand. You can go on and get

specialized in certain equipment that makes your salary increase greatly.
