Where can LPN's work?

I work in pediatrics. I have worked in the Pedi ED and I now work in Pediatric Urgent Care. Just check with you local hospitals to see if they hire LPN's for Pediatrics. You don't know unless you try. Best of luck to you!

I'm an LPN & one of my jobs is at a large pediatric rehabilitaion hospital. I've worked at this particular place for almost 21 years, since before I was a nurse. There are options to choose from...perhaps a pediatrician's office or a school or a facility like mine. Hope this helps. Best of luck to you. Pam

Thank you I feel so much better now, that I know there are more options then just LTC.... I still want to go on to get my RN BSN degree after i'm finished with the practical nursing program, then on to get my master's degree I really want to be an instructor some day. Nursing is my and has always been my first choice, but I always told myself if nursing didn't pan out I'd pursue teaching.... I could always have the best of both worlds

LPNs can work in most places IF you can find a hospital that will hire them there. I work in OB, but these kind of jobs are few and far between. Call your local hospitals and ask them if they hire LPNs in specialty areas. Why would LPN be first choice and teaching be second? Why not RN? I know I will get slammed for this but if I had it to do over, and I was 19, I would just get RN to begin with so I would have more options. I have found it is really hard to go back. Just my .02.

You could also check out pediatric home health. Down south here....Pediatrics Services of America is always hiring. And, I believe that some of it is like private duty where you will be taking care of only one child.

An LPN in one of my classes (pre-reqs for RN) does this and loves it.

I worked in postpartum as an LPN before I became an RN. I also work for an agency, and different hospitals where I have worked do have LPN's on their pediatric floors. There are lots of places you can work. Like everyone else is saying, just check with the hospitals where you want to work. The only places where they don't hire LPN's, at least at the hospital where I work, are ICU, CCU, L&D, ED, units like that. But you should be able to work in pediatrics. I did exacly what your doing, LPN first, then RN, BSN. I am not going to get my Masters though. But, I just wish the best for you. Nursing school is very exciting, fun, and challenging. I'm sure you're going to do well.

Hi I'm going to be starting Practical Nursing school soon and I was wondering when I finish the school what types of places I can work at. I'm not really interested in LTCF... I'd rather work in Peds, but i heard you can't work in Peds unles you're an RN is this true? Thanks to all who reply.

Nursing is in such dire need of people who want to teach future nurses. That's a major reason why a great many schools have waiting lists years long with 4.0 GPA's waiting for (or even turned down for) a slot.

BTW, re: peds - it depends very much on the hospital. I work in a pediatric hospital and we do not use LPNs, but the university hospital does use LPNs on the Peds med/surg floors but not in the units, so you just need to ask around.
