When is the ‘best’ time to start an RN-BSN program?

Published

Hi all -

I am in school for my ADN and will be graduating in December. I have plans to get my BSN and was initially thinking of starting my BSN the Spring after I graduate but am having second thoughts. I’ve had a lot of people tell me that the first 1-2 years of your nursing career are hard and when you really start to learn things; and working in an ER and a med-surg unit (med-surg is what I want to do) I’ve definitely seen some new nurses have rough days in the beginning.

I don’t know if this really matters but I am planning on applying to magnet hospitals with 1 year residency programs so I will be doing that. I am also only applying to one hospital in my area, which I currently work at, otherwise the rest will be out of state.

I that what is best for you  may not be best for someone me but I would love to hear your thoughts and experiences!
