What's with the 2 yr old threads?? Someone bored?

I have noticed that many of the old threads are inadvertently revived by newer members who (a) do not yet know how to start a new thread, or (2) are not paying close attention to the dates of the posts when conducting a search.

Although it is irritating to see a really old thread from 2003 that has been revived when there are plenty of newer discussions on the same topic, I also keep in mind that these old threads still contain valuable information.

I think I'm more annoyed by the countless number of new threads entitled "How hard is nursing school?"..."Am I cut out for ____ specialty?" ...."Can a new grad get hired into the ICU?"

No offense to anyone, but I feel as though I have to "weed" through said threads in order to get to the real content. (i.e. Nurse bullying, rn vs bsn, hospital vs ltc...) JK!!!!! :clown: :clown: :clown: :clown:

ixchel, don't worry- some threads have been going on for ages- but they're still active..... I'm still learning a lot here, too :) I think (and it's very possible I'm wrong) that if a thread is pretty well cooked, and hasn't been active for a while, it's ok to start your own with your own questions and concerns :)

But, wow- kudos for saying something :)

Sometimes I bump my old threads to give updates.... Wow, alot have changed for me since I joined in 2008. In 2008 I was engaged, and entering my first year of nursing school. Now, I'm going through a divorce, working as a LPN, and going into last semester of RN. Sometimes its nice to see what I was thinking a few years back and bump it up.

There were many posts where different people were asking the same questions. I believe the newer members were encouraged to use the search function to research their questions before beginning a new thread. When they replyed or asked something, the post was bumped. Personally, I don't mind the old posts being bumped as there is some good info in some of them.

We have ebb/flow on old threads all the time. Some relevant, some not. If you ever see a "bumped" thread and the topic is no longer relevant, simply report and staff will look into it.

Some older threads bumped up stimulates further discussion and not a thing wrong with that.

As for not starting a new topic that's "done to death" (in the opinion of many), that's o.k. But, we want everyone to get the same here at allnurses.com. If you see a topic that exactly matches what you are talking about and you want more discussion, post to it. If you see a topic that almost matches yours (maybe same issue, but different set of circumstances), then start your own thread. Not one thing wrong with that either.

Just enjoy the site............ :)

I recently saw a ten year old thread that ha been bumped up.

And while we're at it, could we get a sticky about "New job and pregnant!" or "Interview and pregnant!"? There must be two or three of these threads started every week.

Since we already have another thread like this (topics done again and again that seem to irritate some members), we'll just close this as staff has adequately addressed the issue.
