What's the weirdest baby name?

Specialties Ob/Gyn Nursing Q/A

Hi, I was wondering about some of those weird names that you've probably encountered in L&D and PP. I remember when I had my maternity rotation a couple of weeks ago, one of the nurses said she remembers a patient that named her child Placenta. I couldn't believe it that some child has to live his life named after disgusting afterbirth!

i decided, since the 2nd "strange baby names" thread was getting so long, let's start another.

ready.....set.....go!

twins from last night - gypsy and cinnamon. (what a great start to their Media/stripper careers)

orion - (baby boy) - ok, this one did have a romantic, constellation engagement story behind it, so it's not so bad, but still a strange, out-there name.

orzio - another baby boy - poor kid

and, drumroll please.....................

happy birthday to the winner of the year:

queen messiah jesus christ :balloons: :balloons:

oh yes, that was the baby's full, legal name for the birth certificate. oh how wonderful.

give me a few more births to attend at work, and i'm sure to have more to add. i have definitely noticed a trend towards the unusual/unique names lately. some of them sound and look just like random letters thrown together, that i can't even recall them once i get home.

the poor, poor kids........

parents should be reminded that, like a tatoo, a name is with them forever. it has to be appropriate at every age. think about the cruel school years!

This is slightly off topic, but here goes. Years ago, neighbors of ours were determined to give their daughter a name that could not possibly be corrupted into a nickname. They searched baby books and made lists and finally decided they would christen their lovely child April. True enough, this name cannot easily be changed, but they had not reckoned with the creativity of kids. When their angel started school, she was promptly retitled . . .

. . .Apeface.

Depending on the circumstances at times even common names can strike you as funny.

Years ago I was working nights while going to nursing school and the wife of a co-worker (an immigrant in his 30's) had twin boys.

At work he proudly announced their birth - his new sons - "Tom and Jerry".

There wasn't a dry eye in the breakroom.

]I had a patient whose name was XL. Just initials, it wasn't short for anything. That was the exact way his name was on the chart. :)

Specializes in Telemetry.

I knew of a similar one. His name was Richard Weed and went by Dick. In that case, I think he was asking for it (don't you?).

Then there was Martin Martin--like his parents couldn't be more original??

Is it Gwenyth Paltrow's daughter whose name is Apple? Odd.....

And then Rob Morrow (of Northern Exposure) named is kid Tu (Tu Morrow--yeah, cute!).

I went to high school with three lovely ladies named Red Sky, Aurora, and Aspen. Red Sky just went by Sky.

But I think I take the cake for difficult names. It's Janene, but I get Jean, Jeannie, Jane, etc. It's gotten to the point where I just answer to any J word :) (or just go by J)

Janene

There's a kid who graduated high school here named Richard Sniff (first & last names), but he went by the nickname "Dick" - you can put 2 & 2 together there. :D
Specializes in NICU.

There is a lady in town who's name is Love.

A friend knows a guy who named his precious newborn- drum roll please-

Assh 'ole. Pronounced "Asholey." Pretty darned funny if you ask me.:rotfl:

Parents can be so cruel and kids are worse (what was he thinking?)

I know a cardiologist from Romania who upon immigrating thought that his last name was to difficult to pronounce so he changed his last name to Martin = Dr Martin Martin :)

Took care of a Lovie one time (female) and a Bliss (male).

Lets see...We had Yeashure and his sister Donnit, last name Figgures. The capper to all...a very cute girl by the name of Shithead. Prounounced ShI-THeeAd.

You know these kids will wreak their revenge on their parents for this...and then probably carry it over to their kids too.
