Just have a quick question for the nurses. What is the most common dosage of ammoxicillin (SP) for adults in mg? My husband was arguing about it with someone at work and called me up to tell me to post this question here.
(guess he knows what I do when school is out!)

For adults: 250mg q8h by mouth and in more severe infection: 500mg q8h or 875mg q12h PO
Thanks kathy! My hubby kept saying it was 250 mg but apparently somebody said the normal dose was 800 mg and the argument ensued. (why they were discussing this I have no idea! )

I'm accustomed to giving typically 1500 mg/day in 3 divided doses.
800mg sounds like bactrim.

I got these dosages from Epocrates.com
Ammoxicillin dosages -
Infections, Bacterial:500-875 mg PO q12h
Endocarditis prophylaxis:2000 mg PO X 1
Gonnorhea, uncomplicated: 3 G PO x 1
H. Pylori tx: 1 G PO bid x 10-14 days
Hope this helps. ?
OH MY GOD! He just told me why they got into this argument! My husband and one of the other contractors on the job site have colds and decided to go to the FEED MILL and get FISH antibiotics because they heard it was the "same thing" for like 5 bucks and no docs office wait!

What is it with men and going to the doctor? These guys would rather take ANIMAL meds, than brave the docs office....sometimes I've really got to wonder about him, he's my sweetie but bless his heart....no common sense at all sometimes.

Y'know, I have heard that they frequently give the same meds to animals. My dog has been on amoxicillin before. So if the label says it's amoxicillin, it should be the same as what we know of as amoxicillin. Which in no way excuses what they did of course!

Why are they talking about taking antibiotics to treat a cold? Animal anti's or not, they won't do a thing if you've got a viral illness!

Well that's a whole other point that I have tried to make countless times but my hubby is a baby when he is sick. He thinks he's getting pneumonia every time he has the sniffles. I just smile and find lots of errands to run so he doesn't drive me up the wall.
