I am trying to figure out the difference between the Littmann Master Classic II and Classic II S.E.. I am starting NS in August and have no clue which one is better! :eek:The guys at the scrub store i went to said that I should make sure I get a double sided stethoscope because the one-sided ones are more difficult to use (for beginners). Is that true? Thanks in advance for you help!:kiss

It is true that the single sided stethoscopes are a little trickier in that you choose the frequency that you want to listen to with the amount of pressure that you apply. As a beginner with a steth you *may find it easier to use a double sided model. I have been for years. I am about to invest in a new steth. I will be getting the master classic ii. Either way you should be pretty good as you would be going with a quality steth from a great company. The learning curve should be most doable with practice if you were leaning towards the single sided design. The more challenging part will be remembering what to listen for and then correctly describing it with all the new vocabulary you will be learning.
Either way, Good luck! I'm sure youll do fine.
Thank you so much for the info. I did go with the Classic II S.E.. I can't wait to learn how to use it ! Only a few more weeks until school starts yay!!!
Thanks again!
Glad to be able to help out, Some nursing instructors would tell you that its not what you listen with but how good you can listen. As an EMT with years of field exp I can tell you that while that is partially true, there is no substitute for experience nor a good listening device or "ears" as I like to call it.

To resurrect this thread, is there a difference in acoustical sensitivity between the Classic II SE and the Master Classic II? I have the Classic II SE since that's what our school bookstore had (I'm a first year Nursing student) and when compared to my freebie Welch Allyn Professional, I don't really notice a difference in sound quality. I know part of this is inexperience, but would a step up to the Master Classic II be worth it? How would you compare the two aside from price? I just expected the Littmann to be a large step up but I guess I'm sort of disappointed...
Thanks!
