What Type Of Volunteer Experience?

Published

hi all! i hope you are doing well!

i have read that nursing schools recommended having direct patient care experience. may you give some examples of this? i am a patient advocate at a local health clinic where i conduct a patient health assessment and connect patients with health education and community resources. is this the type of experience schools are looking for? or are they looking for something like a cna?

ahh! please help! thanks so much, ginillel

Hi there ! Welcome...I think a CNA is a wonderful way to experience "direct" patient care. I would like to take a class myself. But probably any type of position in a hospital would be fine. A CNA works closely with a nurse (and everyone else on the floor) so that would be a great learning experience for you. You see alot. Hope this helps !

I also think CNA would be good if you can find a program. I am going to be volunteering in my local hospital. I haven't decided which unit, but I am leaning twords surgical day care or ICU, both have patient care. Good luck.
