Ukraine braces for assault in east; Russian talk of civilian killings intercepted

Is Tucker Carlson questioning the deaths in Bucha yet?

Why wouldn't he fall back on his old "fake news" excuse?  He will do it and his minion pinheads will love him for it.

Do you get the impression that when it comes to politics that McConnell has no moral boundaries? He certainly struggled to answer that question.

Are any of you familiar with The Lincoln Project?

Angry voters slammed by higher prices and scarred by two years of fighting the pandemic are poised to punish Democrats in midterm elections, according to some of the leading experts in consumer sentiment and behavior.

Time is running out for Democrats and their chances of holding congress are not looking good.

People will vote according to the information they get about the parties and the people.  Media spends lots of time elevating the "concerns, criticisms and complaints" of the conservative politicians no matter the accuracy or credibility. Grassroots campaigning will likely better inform people when media would rather talk about an event at an award show than the planned overthrow of a presidential election by the former president, his family, members of the GOP congressional caucus, family members of supreme court justices, members of military, law enforcement and white supremacy/nationalism clubs.  If republican win control of Congress it could be disastrous for American democracy, the GOP have shown little interest in governing for we the people.

Clinton didn't have the house or senate during this time and I don't remember being all that bothered.  I do have some concerns about the current crop of Republicans that I referenced in the article which I meant to post here and not on the Biden thread which I'll repost below.

When we live in a world where Marjorie Taylor Greene gets elected and has a voice, I get concerned.

I disagree pretty much with Tom Cotton on a lot of things but find him an intelligent person.  But even he's gone off the deep end with his rhetoric against Supreme Court Justice Brown.  So I do have concerns of Republican control.   Of course the DNC chair calling him "little maggot-infested man" is unprofessional.

I'd still like to remain hope that our Democracy will remain intact but some days I wonder.

As you noted, the Clinton era GOP was less advanced along its pathway to authoritarian rule.  Leadership like Gingrich and Hastert  gave us clues that we chose to ignore and that lack of clarity cascaded to lower and lower expectations for truth, honesty, integrity, ethics or moral conduct from republican politicians...and here we are.

Unprofessional language happens sometimes when confronted by un-American rhetoric and conduct from members of Congress.  Which is more upsetting?

And what, exactly, is the Republican platform?  I've seen no specifics on any programs to move forward from them.  Most people are pretty ignorant - ignorant enough to elect Republicans, perhaps.  No one can predict the future but I think it is bleak.

I think they've been pretty clear on their platform.  They are against critical race theory, against transgendered equality, want a stronger border, they are highlighting inflation, anti-abortion, voting regulations, just to name a few.

McConnell tweeted "The worst inflation in 40 years is fleecing American consumers from the gas pump to the grocery store. Democrats’ policies have prices rising faster than wages. The American people know one month of war in Europe doesn't explain 12 months of rising inflation on Democrats' watch."

Tom Cotton tweets "Joe Biden's reckless policies have turned every state into a border state. And this crisis is about to get much worse."

So to me their platform is pretty clear.  But while they are very quick to criticize and point out problems, I'm a bit unclear on what they propose as better ideas.

Unfortunately that's enough to win elections.  If people perceive that situations have worsened, and in the case of the border and inflation it has, they don't care if Republicans don't have any ideas, they just aren't happy with the worsening situation.

Propaganda works.

You are correct, the GOP and RNC haven't developed a serious political platform since 2016 when Trump required that they diminish the pledge for assistance to Ukraine.  What an odd coincidence, eh? It's also an interesting coincidence that Trump, the guy whose campaign team communicated regularly with Russian agents, and the guy who famously asked Putin to supply political dirt on his opponent, followed that Russia sympathetic platform change with an increase in purchase of Russian oil. It increased every year until we were purchasing record amounts in 2020. Is almost like Trump was helping to fund Putin's military aspirations in Ukraine and it all happened while his devoted voters believed the lie that Trump made the USA energy independent.

Many heralded political historians also share your concern that we are too far gone to avoid this transition to authoritarian rule under right wing extremists.

France may be taking a similar turn.

Macron, a political centrist, for months looked like a shoo-in to become France’s first president in 20 years to win a second term. But that scenario blurred in the campaign’s closing stages. The pain of inflation and of pump, food and energy prices that are hitting low-income households particularly hard subsequently roared back as dominant election themes. They could drive many voters Sunday into the arms of far-right leader Marine Le Pen, Macron’s political nemesis.

Not that the Republican party is the greatest thing since sliced bread, but I think your misrepresenting a few things.

How are they against transgender equality,  other than saying it's wrong for one to use their male body to compete against females in sports?  What rights are Republicans wanting to take away from transgenders?

Wages have risen.  More from coming out of a pandemic than anything.  You could argue that govt spending has helped that, but the other side to that is that it has made inflation worse.  Any other Biden policy you believe has made the economy better?

Plenty of ideas to fix things. You just happen to not agree with them. Such as energy independence.   Or, just as important things not to do to make things worse, like trillions in spending packages and rolling back immigration regulations.
