Something to understand what nurses think about re the Current News and their opinions!
To me open borders means free movement of people and goods across established borders. One good example I can think of is that Spain and Portugal has free movement across their borders with no checks.
America is no such place and there is ZERO indication that his is the policy of Biden and other democrats in power. Not that it isn't discussed by some progressive the same as the wall is discussed.
Obama had protests because his policies were too harsh, as were Trumps. There will be much to criticize about Biden's border policy. Fox News and his opponents will make sure of that. Right now they are too focused on Hunter Biden but the border will always be an issue.
Rightly so, I'm sure there is much to criticize Biden over. But wanting an "open border" shouldn't be part of the conversation.
Zero Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee voted to confirm Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson. They had their little theatre last week, creating sound bites and video clips to be used for campaign material. They tried a la Ted Cruz with his silly visual displays to appeal to their racist base. Their worst criticism is they don't agree with her "judicial philosophy", of following the law.
And its backfiring:

QuoteA Quinnipiac University poll this week was the latest to show relatively strong support for Jackson’s confirmation: 51 percent supported it, while 30 percent opposed it. Support for her is higher than it was for the confirmations of Trump’s last two nominees, including Kavanaugh, whose confirmation Americans opposed. A CNN poll showed Americans opposed it by as much as double digits.

I wouldn't say it's backfiring but they are certainly not voting for one of the most popular nominees for a long long time. I'm really quite jaded but even I am a bit surprised at this. Sometime in the Obama years we reached a point where voting with the other side is held against them so I don't know why I'm surprised.
Considering they justices they've let through lately their reasoning sounds extremely lame. It's not about that at all.

I hear that Ukrainians are seeking asylum at the southern border. Are they going to be allowed into the US due to having less melanin?
Republicans seem to have no interest in governing, just obstructing and getting tax breaks for corporations and the wealthy. And according to Rick Scott, poor people need to pay more taxes.
And he has no understanding how Medicare or Social Security is even funded bit uses hi disinformation to frighten and enrage people. He speaks like a 12 year old but I guess that is the maturity of his base.

I saw a clip on Twitter where a constituent of Chuck Grassley in Iowa, told him he would no longer support him because of the way KBJ was treated during the hearings.
I hope Val Demmings, and any other Democratic candidates running against Republicans point out how Judge, soon to be Justice Brown Jackson, was treated.

To say its "backfiring" is wishful thinking for some.
She was always going to be confirmed, and most Americans weren't paying much attention to it.
Compared to everything else going on that concerns voters, this ranks low.

I agree it's not backfiring and perhaps "most" Americans weren't paying attention to it, as most Americans don't pay attention to much, but she was a huge story on social media and I believe the polls that she's the most popular justice in a long long time and most Americans approve. While I was a bit surprised by the lack of Republican approval, at the end of the day most people are probably "yeah, that's expected". But our attention span is short. Fox News barely has any stories about Ukraine. Again the headline is Hunter Biden. They do have a story about Jackson, but it's really about Joy Reid and her comments about Republicans. Jackson is the lead story over at USA Today. But soon will fade in the background and there will be no "backfiring". Just another day in our deeply divided nation.

Well, by your definition, you're right, open borders isn't in the conversation.
There is a liberal faction supportive of decriminalization of illegal immigration. The net result is millions of entering and staying without going through the legal channels.
Maybe "porous" border is a better description, if that makes you feel better.

Ohhh...that description sounds scary...exactly the way it was intended to sound. Is it impolite to point out that the claim that "millions will enter and stay without going through the legal channels" sounds like hyperbolic partisan rhetoric rather than fact? That statement is crying for a citation.
Not using the language of propagandists (open borders) should make you feel better...if this is about feelings.
Today's press briefing was informative and interesting.

You need to back that up if you don't mind. Who is this liberal fraction?
QuoteTrump repeatedly claims that Democrats “want open borders.” But nobody in leadership on the left promotes open borders. Nobody. Let’s clarify: not one or two people. Zero percent of the elected leadership of Democrats or independents have suggested the U.S. should have open borders. And there’s certainly no policy of open borders embraced by the Democratic Party.

I'm not saying I disagree with you that there is a call from some people for open borders. It's just not a political policy and is fear mongering and not a huge political force. But I'll surrender that the idea is out there. Those that want an open border seem to have zero influence on politicians.
Obviously a totally different topic that liberals tend to be for is to make citizens of children of illegal immigrants that have been here their whole lives, and to allow them to be educated. Also illegals that have been working and contributing to American society for decades should be departed. Wanting a moral and ethical system for treating human beings at the border, and within the border doesn't not equate to "open borders".
That is not to say that the border isn't having problems and shouldn't be deal with. Apparently about 170,000 are waiting for Title 42 to expire. Even with Title 42 border crossings were at an all time high. I will concede that ending Title 42 will be problematic, but again it seems ironic that in a country that demands zero covid restrictions or mandates to turn a blind eye to this policy.
The spending bill did include more spending at the border.
Quote“It’s unacceptable to end Title 42 without a plan and coordination in place to ensure a secure, orderly, and humane process at the border,” Kelly wrote.
GOP eyes linking Title 42 to coronavirus deal. Machin, naturally, says its striking “a frightening decision” for an administration “nowhere near prepared” for an influx at the border."
