Prime Minister locked out of parliament by the opposition!

Just wondering if this reminds anyone of recent January events?

On the same par as Samoa. No disrespect intended to Samoa.

Belarus president diverting an international flight to abduct a reporter. Is this similar to taking reporters personal items and work?

On the same par as Belarus!

Simply no shame acting like this is medieval times!

I just watched Rachel Maddow and I have said it before, they are trolling us. They select exactly the topics that we are concerned about and then revolve their show around our comments.

Just kidding of course, but it really happens a lot!

I post these topics because, let's be honest. We are a country of only the familiar! The country of not knowing or caring about what happens in the world unless it's directly effecting us.

I know people will disagree because we are different, but try your friends or family members and let's see if they know or care where Belarus or Samoa are? I know this because I know so many nurses and Drs and other educated people who don't actually know where Ottawa is? Or it's significance?

Extrapolate from that what you will.

And, as I typically read the linked articles in the threads I follow, I appreciate you doing it.

However, in my opinion I find some of your commentary distracting.

I haven't read these new laws they're trying to pass; I've only pieced together some of the parts.

I agree that voters should show a United States ID. Visitors to our country should not vote in our elections.

I do not understand why it is so difficult for people to get an ID. Is it because poor people don't have a way to get their birth certificates? If so, we should work on that instead of simply slamming the door.

ID is needed to buy alcohol or cigarettes, to open a bank account, to get a job, apply for welfare or food stamps or unemployment payments, to rent/buy/drive a car, to get on an airplane, to apply for Medicare or Medicaid . . . I could go on. Why is it bad to require an ID to vote?

I disagree that we should make it harder to vote by mail, as long as we have procedures in place to check the ID of the person requesting a ballot.

I disagree with making it difficult to drop off ballots, and I think mail-in votes that were post-marked 2 days before the election should be allowed, even if they arrive late.

I pretty much agree with you on all that.

No, its not difficult to get a ID.

I've been doing mobile vaccine clinics since March.  Many in underserved neighborhoods and sponsored by FEMA.  It's interesting that the federal govt requires that a person shows us a picture ID to get vaccinated.

Does anyone know when Steve Mnuchin is going to get his comeuppance ???

Can you please show me the federal mandate that FEMA or other mobile clinics require photo id to receive vaccine.  I suspect that you are confusing corporate or local rules with federal mandates.  I suspect this because the federal government is typically cautious not to place unnecessary barriers to recommended vaccinations in their processes.  It should be an easy thing for you to confirm and share that federal mandate...or to realize your error and correct your thinking.

Feds were requiring photo ID at FEMA sites to insure citizens of that state and age range approved for vaccination only were getting  COVID shot since vaccines allotted in different amounts to each state. It also prevented international travel to the US just to get vaccination, taking away vaccine availability for US citizens.

Totally different than voting which DOES require one to be a registered voter in order to cast a ballot.  ID requirements vary by state.  In the early 1900's, there was no state birth certificate; names and date of birth often just recorded in family bible  or on baptisimal certificate, especially for home births by lay midwife common at that time.  My paternal  grandmother was born in 1896,  just a bible notation which took us a year to get recognized for a birth certificate in the 1960's.

History of the birth certificate: from inception to the future of electronic data

Quote

Inumerations of people were carried out long before the birth of Jesus. Data related to births were recorded in church registers in England as early as the 1500s. However, not until the 1902 Act of Congress was the Bureau of Census established as a permanent agency to develop birth registration areas and a standard registration system. Although all states had birth records by 1919, the use of the standardized version was not uniformly adopted until the 1930's. In the 1989 US Standard Birth Certificate revision, the format was finally uniformly adopted to include checkboxes to improve data quality and completeness. The evolution of the 12 federal birth certificate revisions is reflected in the growth of the number of items from 33 in 1900 to more than 60 items in the 2003 birth certificate. As birth registration has moved from paper to electronic, the birth certificate's potential utility has broadened, yet issues with updating the electronic format and maintaining quality data continue to evolve. Understanding the birth certificate within its historical context allows for better insight as to how it has been and will continue to be used as an important public-health document shaping medical and public policies.

Not at all surprised, she has been a conservative Republican all along.  Liberals went gaga over her stance against Trump but forgot she said from Day one she's going to fight the "dangerous Biden agenda" and is a Republican through and through.

It's frustrating that in her stance saying there was no fraud that she's playing the Republican card that we must protect against fraud.

If the Republicans weren't so obvious that they want to make it harder for Democrats to vote I wouldn't be bothered.  We've had a voter ID law for the 30 years I've lived here and it's not controversy.  Almost every functioning adult (I use that word loosely) can come up with one of the documents the state will accept for identification.

That said we've also had voting by mail for well over 20 years without incident.  Why now is there sudden concern over fraud in that system?
