Something to understand what nurses think about re the Current News and their opinions!
Hospitals are trying to fleece people from Covid despite Congressional oversight!
They are still up to their old tricks and I wonder if they are also billing the govt'?
QuoteSeveral Republican lawmakers, in an act of apparent protest, flouted mask rules on the House floor Tuesday during a voting session and then took a photo in front of the Capitol steps.
My opinion is Ms. Pelosi is being foolish with her mask mandate because some congresspeople are not revealing their vaccination status. She's not following CDC recommendation for allowing the vaccinated take off their masks (100% of Democrats are vaccinated). Plus she's unnecessarily bring the mask wars to congress, giving the belligerent ones a platform. I'm sure someone will challenge it in court and what a total waste of time and energy.
If the unvaccinated want to take off their masks and infect each other then so be it. Let the vaccinated take off their masks per CDC recommendations.
Of course the honor system doesn't work. I have a friend that went to the east Coast of Florida and no one, absolutely no one he said was wearing a mask anywhere and it's well known Florida doesn't have a 100% vaccination rate.
Again, I don't care. I'm taking off my mask and let the infected infect each other if that's a chance they are willing to take.
These are interesting times in that Republicans questioned and objected to most moves made by the CDC and now are loving this one. Democrats were all about "trust the science and the CDC"...but not this time.

What about mutations from the unvaccinated that could affect the vaccinated? That's why everyone needs to be vaccinated. So people won't develop mutations that could endanger everyone again.

yes, mutations are a concern and fortunately studies are looking good that at least the current vaccines are good for what's out there now. Covid will probably be like the flu and always be with us.
So you agree with a politician and not the CDC? You're suggesting until 100% of the population is vaccinated then we can take off the masks and presume no more mutations will occur?
Or is this just something special for the lawmakers to have to abide by?
Me, I'm still leaving my mask off and going with the CDC. As a nurse, I certainly am concerned that people don't act in their best interest and throw caution to the wind and go without precautions and a vaccine, but as a human, my capacity to alter my life because of them is limited.

I can't read the article as I don't subscribe. Can you explain what "fleece people from covid" means?

I don't know which way to think. I'm vaccinated, and I'm certainly safe outside. I'm OK with going to a store without a mask where at least some degree of social distancing is possible.
Here's my difficulty; my church is very large, and they sing for 10-15 minutes at the beginning of the service. Almost no one wears a mask once they are in their seats. It's been this way for months, long before most people had a chance to get the vaccine. For this reason, I have stayed home. My clients are medically fragile, and would not do well at all with COVID.
Would I be a risk to my clients if I expose myself to this much group singing?
Am I being too cautious?

Only you can make that decision for yourself and your lifestyle. We still have to wear masks when in direct patient care which I do hope offers some semblance of protection of them from me and I gladly continue to do so since it's proven vaccinated people can carry covid.
Still, I personally choose to not wear a mask about in my private life when not interacting with patients. If the CDC or other scientists recommended health care providers always wear a mask 100% of the time no matter where they are, perhaps I would do that.
I live in Florida where we've had virtually no restrictions for over a year and have been going to the gym, yoga class and restaurants with a mask. When the CDC said not to, I decided to drop it.
I would resent being told "you have to wear your mask in the grocery store, church and concerts despite what the CDC says, until 100% of people are vaccinated" which is what the congress is doing.

it has been shown that vaccinated people are unlikely to spread COVID, so I would say you are safe to attend church.

You likely wear a mask around your clients, which would offer an extra layer of comfort.

This is a good question. Theoretically and mathematically you would be much less likely to convey any virus to your clients than would a nonvaccinated contact. The best practice, at this time would be to mask when with your vulnerable clients, IMV

I wear a KN95 mask at work, putting it on before entering the house, and removing it only to quickly eat while in a different room from my client and at least across the room from family members. They do not wear masks in their house. The last family member just got the 2nd COVID vaccine; the others are fully vaccinated. My client has been and still is too ill to take the vaccine.
Thank you for your replies. I feel better.

I'm still wearing my mask at all times except in wide open outdoor spaces. I trust the science, but I trust logic even more!
Too many unvaccinated people who are capable of creating their own variants that could sneak pass the vaccine. I'm not taking any chances. I'm young and healthy, but the virus doesn't know that. I know too much biology to take chances.
I would bet serious money that we haven't seen all the long term effects as yet. If so many systems have been affected, who's to say that like herpes or HIV, this virus doesn't hide itself well enough for later surprises? We absolutely know that neurological effects occur, either directly or indirectly? We also know that the body evolved from incorporating genes from many sources and modifying them to suit its purpose, mostly with great success, but not always!
As amazing as our body is, evolution is a practice of trial and error and EVENT'S catalysts!
I believe that this maybe such an event? Too many mutations in too many populations too quickly!
ONE ABSOLUTE I AM TOTALLY SURE OF, even my father made mistakes, that I observed and I have never met anyone so calculating and cold and so able to pool knowledge from so many different sources and see the big picture! And he made mistakes!
Did Einstein or Oppenheimer see the effects of their theories and works? Dr Fauci might be brilliant, BUT HE'S AN ACADEMIC!
HE hasn't lived in the real world for a long time! He's a product of the information that he receives. Being a good psych nurse I am a student of behaviors and we are a product of the software we possess. And I don't trust academics to know the real world.
I trust PEOPLE TO MAKE MISTAKES!

I guess different schools and different hospitals use different abbreviations. It's hard to keep up.
