So I'm waiting to hear back to start school... So I wanted to make a list of stuff I need for NP school. We are very budget conscious so we like to know ahead in order to plan our budget (we are paying for most of my school out of pocket even lol) what's ur suggestions that I should add to my list (besides regular assigned books?)

any ref books, study books, supplies, apps, gadgets, etc would be awesome :)

The Fitzgerald review book is great to have throughout your education.

"Primary Care: A Collaborative Practice" is a fantastic text and reference.

Your program will let you know what you will need when you need it but I found the Sanford Antimicrobial guide and Tarascon Pharmacopeia useful.

Haha yes, I know my program will tell me required supplies... It's more of helpful stuff beyond books and required supplies.

I'm sure as you begin this journey you will find there are some things you need... For me, at my school, a subscription to grammarly.com was well worth it. My program has an enormous amount of papers and to have something that can look them over after I'm done and tell me I didn't miss something basic just makes it much easier to submit those papers for a grade. My other splurge was a good office setting. Doors that close, nice monitor to hook into my laptop, desk that is mine, space for my books and of course some tunes to keep me going. I spend way too much time doing school work, so I need to have someplace where I do the work that isn't the living room. No school work while in the living room with the family, just makes it easier to show my family respect and actually be in the moment when I'm with them.

Thank you so much...what an awesome idea! i will def be getting a subscription to grammarly.com...very good idea. I'm in the process of making our spare room into my study room :) Getting my desk up set up, will have a extra monitor, buying a new printer, and going to make a zen/study area for when i need to get away from the desk

I totally agree about the study space. You really need to get away from distractions in order to effectively read, study, do practice questions, etc.

If you look at your school's bookstore website you can get an idea of the recommended books that the teachers like, including study guides. I use PERRLA for APA paper formatting. I have the Fitzgerald and the Miller Adult Review guides. As far as practice questions, the more the merrier. Your grades will show the benefit of the time spent.

I got myself a new stethoscope for school (Craigslist) and comfortable shoes as a present for getting into grad school.

A Keurig!! OMG....it's been the absolute best thing I could have ever bought. Liquid motivation (in the form of black tea or coffee) has been great for those all-night paper writing/study sessions. :)

I also agree on the study space. Having your own space to work, where others know "she's doing her schoolwork, and not just surfing the net" is priceless. Set it up really nice because you will be spending a LOT of time there! My program is very paper-heavy and I spend a lot of time writing. I invested in a $300 office chair designed for high use (5-10 hrs/day sitting) and it's been the BEST. I'm also considering other ergonomic supplies (foot rests etc). It sounds somewhat lame- I didn't even realize office chairs had sit ratings until I bought one- but SO worth it when you are comfortable. Background music helps with ambient lighting.

In terms of other stuff, I got myself a Samsung galaxy note 10.1 and LOVE it. I have a laptop and a smart phone and let me tell you, it makes life a lot easier. Taking notes is a breeze! I just pull out my S pen, bring up the powerpoint the professor is teaching, and make notes directly on the slide. Then, I just shoot up my files to the cloud, for later use on my laptop if needed.

I also use PERRLA and although it has some quirks, I'd say its worth the money. I've heard Refworks is good also.
