What speciality best to work as RN while completing FNP

Posted

I've been currently working as a Labor and Delivery Nurse for going on 2 years and have decided to go for my FNP-DNP. I was thinking it might be a good idea to get a position in the ER in order to learn a new set of skills and to get use to being exposed to a wider population range?

Is this a good idea? Would this benefit me more after getting my FNP or would another area be better? Thanks!!!

Previously, I worked about 5 years on a med-surg floor. I was working as a case manager when I applied for FNP school. I made the decision to go work in the ER. I went to the ER because I felt like I needed to the learn as much as I could in the shortest amount of time. For me, it was the best decision I made. I would say that 90% of my current class has a background in ER or ICU. Ultimately, you have to decide what is best for you. Please let me know if you have any other questions.
