What questions are asked at substance abuse eval?

Published

Hi all! Hope all is well and everyone is staying safe. So I have pretty good feeling I’ll be going to for an eval to rule out drug/alcohol and wanted to ask what types of questions are asked.

Specializes in Psych, Addictions, SOL (Student of Life).

You will be asked questions about what you have been using, how much and how often and for what purpose.

You will be asked about your mental, health, your perception of your triggers and strengths.

You will be asked if there are any people in your family with substance abuse issues.

You will be asked if you have ever experienced detox symptoms.

You will be asked about past efforts to quit and longest period of sobriety.

It's best not to lie but you also don't have to vomit all the gory details either.

Chances are you will be told you have to do in-patient if you do don't be afraid to get a second opinion (at your expense)  Fight for your rights but understand that by doing so you may have your liscense revoked or suspended)

Good Luck to you

I was interviewed very much like Hppy's questions.  Was also given 300+ question personality  test, cognitive thinking test, including timed responses to evaluate dexterity and IQ test.  The same tests were administered at the end of my inpatient stay.  The results of the 2nd test were used to determine if the program would clear or recommend me for monitoring program.  The personality test was multiple choice, cognitive/dexterity on computer and IQ mixed media.

Also blood and hair samples to test for substances.

Great! Thanks for the feedback! I have co-waste discrepancies and never had any positive drug test including hair follicle, my lawyer is recommended I get one to prove to the BON I’m safe to practice

My questions were similar to what Hppy said.  But I was recommended for outpatient (THANK GOD) even though I diverted AND had a positive urine test.  It largely depends on the state but since you are going willingly to a place of your choosing I would think you’d be fine.
