I am 39 and just got my nursing license last August. I'll be working here in Indiana/Ohio for another three years, but my family are considering moving to Queensland. What sort of requirements will I have to complete to be a nurse in AU? (including educational level, experience, testing, etc.)
Thank you so much,
Hoosiernurse

Hey Hoosiernurse
Easy for u to come to OZ...any state where u want to work if u like.
You just have to get registered with the Nursing Board (of any state u going).
U try to explore the "Work for Us" heading under Queensland Health and u will find heaps of information.

Hi cioman94
i understand that the national registration will take effect next year, 2010, in Australia only which I think is good for nurses in OZland. This means only one nursy registration if u want to work interstate. If u are like me who likes to experience more of OZ, this would be perfect coz I don't have to pay for rego if I want to relocate, for example.
May I ask, where in OZ do u want to work?

I was educated in the USA as a LPN 15 years ago.I have been in Queensland 6 months.I am a dual Citizen. The education requirements in the USA are MUCH higher than here in Australia BUT the practical education is much better here,Wages are better, work conditions are better and you do alot less in your scope of practice here which is better as patients get a better standard of patient care.

thank you.. i intend to find work in melbourne, perhaps somewhere in the "suburb" or just outside melbourne on the assumption that the cost of living would be a bit inexpensive than in dowtown melbourne itself.. nways, those are just plans which i hope to achieve..
