What is the passing mark for nclex-rn?

Published

50%? 60%? or does it vary? and can you take the nclex any time of the yr? thanks:)

The NCLEX is not that kind of test. According to Kaplan those who pass the NCLEX normally achieve 50%...those who fail the NCLEX get around 50%..its not how many questions you get right or wrong..its the difficulty of the questions you get right or wrong.

If you answer 50% of the questions correct but do not manage to get higher knowledge questions (SATA, Delegation, Priority etc) you will fail. If you manage to answer higher knowledge questions correctly even at the 50% correct rate you can pass. This is according to Kaplan and in accordance with my own test experience this seems a fair way to think of it. I felt like I was on a roller coaster.

easy question -

easy question -

SATA -

Priority - whoops must have got it wrong cuz I got another easy question -

got the easy question right -

Delegation question -

SATA - whoops must have got it wrong cuz again I got fed an easy question.

rinse repeat etc.

so, its not the number of questions right...its the difficulty ie knowledge level.

As for if you can take test year round I don't know, might want to check with the pearson vue website.

Passing can occur with any minimum number of questions up to the maximum due to the nature of the test. Read up on the test to understand how it works. But any way you look at it, you need to know the material, because you can't predict the questions.
