I know you cant do anything pertaining to nursing until you get your degree..but, what kind jobs are you qualified for during school...during different parts of the program dont you have enough skill and knowledge to get jobs you couldnt get before? It might sound kinda dumb but it was just a thought:confused:

I am a medical transcriptionist. It is great for helping me learn, I work at home, I work part time, and I can take care of my kids when they need me.

This is probably not that helpful, but your school probably has an employment center that could give you some ideas.

I was also wondering what kind of job you can have while attending nursing school. I will be enrolled at Edgecombe Community College for the RN Program this fall and I wanted to get an evening job.

our school requires you to have your CNA prior to strating. If not some states will allow you to sit for the CNA exam after you have completed your first semester. I know you can do this in IL. If your wanting to get into a medical position try contacting your local hospital. I worked as a unit secretary straight out of high school and while getting my EMT so I will be working in the ER at the hospital here while doing my nursing. Hope this helps
I don't know this from personal experience, but in the information packet that the nursing department sends out to perspective students, it says that you can take the cna test after the first quarter, and then the lpn test after 4 quarters.

I'll just be in my prereqs this fall but I'll most likely be working as a caregiver- it seemed odd to me, but no exp. is required. There are several Retirement homes and such that are hiring in my area and some Home Health co.s as well- Also, a lot of hospitals here have pt. care tech positions that require no previous exp. or certifications. I know I want to work in a hospital in some capacity before becoming a nurse and that's an option I'm leaning towards- also at the nursing dept. at my school they have information on Student Nursing programs offered by the different hospitals- they know you're a student and they work with your schedule- and there's no obligation to work there after graduation- I'd check either with your school's nursing program or with the HR dept. at the hospitals in your area- good luck!

After your 1st semester of nursing school you can work as a CNA/PCT/Nurse tech in the hospital. I work as a PCT at local hospital (have my CNA lic.) before entering the nursing program and I am so glad I did, it really let me see what nurses do on daily basis. I am very comfortable with patient contact and I have already learned some skills that I will also do in the nursing program. I think its a good idea to get a job in the hospital if your schedule allows for it, and the managers are very flexible with nursing students.
good luck
