Hi,
I will start classes in an ADN program in the fall. I am and will be working part-time. Currently I am a CNA in a LTC unit attached to a hospital. The people I work with are great, and the hours are fine and flexible. I don't mind the "dirty" work (ie poop, puke, and pee). But I do find it to be a bit boring. In my past (I'm an older returning to school student) I've been a certified addiction counselor. I'm thinking about either working in either addictions/psych or ER when I complete school. However, I've read the postings indicating it's best to get some first experience in med/surg before moving on to psych. And my best chance to have that is to stick with my current job, however the freestanding addiction program in town is looking for relief techs, and I think I would enjoy that work more. I'm living in a one hospital town, and because of family obligations I may not be free to leave after graduation, so I don't want to burn any bridges now. Any thoughts?
Thanks

:heartbeat:heartbeat:heartbeatI would think that if you have been a good employee. .transfering somewhere else to get experience in a field that you want to make your career in would not be an issue. . . if you feel comfortable talking to your nurse manager I would, and get her opinion. Hopefully if you've left a good impression on people in your hospital they would be sad to loose you . . . and thrilled to get you back if/when you would choose to return:heartbeat:heartbeat:heartbeat GOOD LUCK WITH WHATEVER YOU CHOOSE !
