What should I be studying four months before starting nursing school?

Published

Hi,

I start nursing school in four months. What should I be studying in the meantime? I was a 4.0 student through my pre-reqs, but I took my A&P a few semesters ago. Also, I'm worried that nursing school will be a whole different ballgame than my general ed classes. I understand abstract theory very easily, it's memorizing the facts and details that I struggle with (which put me at a unique advantage/disadvantage compared to most of my fellow pre-nursing classmates). I'm a little nervous about this, so that's why I definitely want to be on my A-game when I start the program. Besides just studying A&P, what else would benefit me? I was thinking medical terminology, but any other suggestions? Specific titles that helped anyone else would be great!

I am studying my human AP mostly. I bought a couple medical terminology and math for meds books, but then I figured I should just take those as they come when I am in school!

I'll be starting Nursing School in the spring, so I'm in the same boat....Definitely take Medical Terminology... I took it last semester, and it's extremely useful.... I'm also taking a pharmacology class and a Lifespan Psychology online, because I know they will be required and useful in nursing school. I find it good to keep busy, and while I'm waiting to hear from schools, I might as well knock out some classes I would have to take in nursing school. This will allow me to focus on nursing classes when the time comes.

I suggest taking it easy and relaxing. You will have enough to do once school starts. I asked myself the same question and I took that advice and I am so glad I did.

Seriously, I just started NS on Aug 18th and I just enjoyed my summer and didn't worry about school. I had read the first few chapters of my fundamentals book and once class started.....they didn't even begin with the first few chapters. Our first assignment was scattered all over the book. So, a lot of good that did.

Unless you have exact reading assignments then just enjoy the time you have left before NS starts for you.

I totally agree with jesskidding! I just started NS on Aug. 30 and I feel so overwhelmed already. Take it easy and relax. You will be glad you did! :) The only thing I did was do my reading assignments the week before NS started which was advised at our orientation. If you really feel like you must do something, then work on your dosage calculation problems. We have our first test coming up in week 7.

Thanks, guys! I am taking it easy, but I think I will be reviewing the material from my A&P and Med Term classes in the meantime.

Thanks everyone, I was wondering what to study also. I'll be applying to nursing school in a couple of months and I was also curious as what to study.
