What should I do while I'm waiting on the nursing program?

Published

Hey guys! I need some advice

Here's my plan: I'm retaking my MATH 1111 and ENGL 1100 this Fall at VCC and if things go according to plan my GPA should get boosted to 3.42 or even better, 3.48. On October, I will reapply at Langara for the Fall 2020 semester and hopefully submit a new transcript in January.

After talking it through with my parents, I decided to apply at KPU's Health Care Assistant program that's starting on Spring 2020. I think the program lasts for 6 months. I want to study something else while I'm waitlisted at Langara's BSN program (which I'm pretty sure I will be waitlisted at least because I heard the Fall semester is harder to get into). Reapply for Spring 2021 if I don't get accepted off the waitlist and while I'm waiting on that I would hopefully be working at a hospital as HCA for like 6 months. Do you think I will be wasting my time and money? Should I just wait for BSN program and not enter the HCA program?

My dad has advised me to keep my options open just in case this nursing plan doesn't work out so I'm very confused..

I would apply to more than one nursing program and see where you get accepted.

I had a very similar plan initially as I was eager to get working within the health care industry. I ended up not doing it as I found out that after a few semesters complete of the nursing program (I can't find the info at the moment), you are actually eligible to apply for your HCA status, and then work as an HCA while in nursing. So ultimately, it may be a waste of your time and money, however, it would also give you a head start on some things you may see in nursing. I hope this helps!
