What happen when we are no longer a new grad RN?Would it be harder to find a job?

From what I understand, you are no longer a new graduate RN after one year from the graduation date. I am so worried about this and I feel that I am push for time to find a job ASAP. Does anybody know whether after the one year mark we would still be able to qualify for a new graduate program? Is it harder to find a job after the 1 year mark? I still have 8 months to go but I am just overly worried and stressed because a lot of the new graduate programs would not be starting until 2011! I search everywhere on the internet for this information but was not able find any conclusive answers. I would appreciate any input in this. Thank you so much! :redbeathe

I graduated in May of 09 and have yet to find a position. I just interviewed this week for a Versant program in a very rural area. Did not get the job, but did secure an interview. Some programs will accept you, others will not. You are more likely to be considered by a smaller demographic area. Large urban hospitals seem to be more selective regarding year of graduation, type of degree (no ADN's, BSN and MSN only need apply) and even when you are no longer considered a new grad after getting the first position (some say 6 months, others 1 year). Each facility is different.

Thank you for your information. It is not too bad if some hospitals allow you to have an extra 6 months to one year as a new graduate.
