So I've been researching a lot about getting a BSN at San Francisco State, and I'm kind of confused... They say you can't get in the program right away during freshman year, so what did you do during this time?
I may have misunderstood, but please let me know. I'd highly appreciate the help!
Sorry for spelling mistakes, etc.

At the CSU campuses, nursing is considered an impacted program so gaining admission to the nursing program and taking the nursing classes is a 2 step process. You finished the first step - you got accepted to the university. Now you need to get accepted to the actual nursing program.
As a freshman, knock all your prereqs and GE classes out of the way and maintain a high GPA. If you maintain a high GPA, then you have a greater chance of getting accepted into the nursing program there.
Be aware, you may not be able to get into the program at all (due to competitiveness) and in which case you will need to transfer out to another school with a nursing program that accepts you or you can graduate with a different degree and go back to school at a later time. I chose the latter option. I am a CSU graduate myself and about to become a 2 time CSU graduate so I speak from experience. Good luck!

I'm taking AP classes in high school right now (mostly history and science classes) and I'm also in the biomedical science program. Would the nursing program look at this and the scores I get on the AP tests?
Thank you for all your help!!! I truly appreciate it!

I don't believe they look at your high school course work. They will only look at your college work and prerequisites classes including anatomy, physiology, chemistry, microbio, stats, and some other classes. See the SFSU fact sheet: http://www.nursing.sfsu.edu/sites/sites7.sfsu.edu.nursing/files/BSN%20Fact%20Sheet-April222013_0.pdf
Since you are going to a big state school, you will fight tooth and nail to get into those classes because everyone will be trying to take those classes. During my first degree, I actually gave up for a few years because I couldn't get into the prereqs so I graduated with a different degree. Don't get discouraged though. If this is what you want, keep on truckin'. While carrying 12 units at SFSU, see if you can take a prereq at a community college. Yes, it's possible to go to 2 colleges at the same time. Just know that your college experience will differ from those taking a liberal arts degree, i.e. less fun, lol.
Most importantly, set up an advising appointment with the school of nursing to map out what classes are available when and figure out a proper timeline for you.
Thank you so much for your help! (:
No prob, good luck!
