What was your Entry-level Medical assistant salary/hourly wage?

Published

Hello, I am beginning an assessment of Entry-level Medical assistants salary or hourly wage, especially in the Midwest (Indiana, Michigan). This will help students like myself to compare salaries with other professionals to negotiate salary and know their value in the profession.

Please volunteer to comment your starting salary or wage in the comments!

Thank you.

When I graduated in 2010 I took a job at a clinic family practice @$15.00 I only did the clinic for 1 1/2 I made more money at the hospital as a ER tech

@reesepc, What state was this in? What is the education for an ER tech? Thanks for your comment :)

In MI about $14/hr

Colleague, was making $9/hr in CA. This was not for a new hire. The new hire was promised $10 an hour but their paycheck also reflected $9 an hour.

In my area, northern Utah, most medical assistants start between 12-14 dollars/hour.

I'm in Colorado, new graduate CMA (AAMA) hired last year. $16/hr

Specializes in SRNA.

Urgent care 16.50/hr with no former MA training or experience. Pay increased to 17/hr at my annual review.

Just graduated and certified ccma, nha July 2017 Maine, just got hired at ob/gyn office no prior experience 14.35with a review after a year.

When I first became an MA I started at a private practice at 8.75 an hour in Chicago. That was 16 years ago.

Now I work at a geriatric place making 23.50 an hour and work 90 hours per pay. I'm a team lead.

This is is what I have learned from Chicago.

1. Private practice will pay you around 13-15 an hour and most of the time no benefits

2. Hospital outpatient/pavilion will pay you 14-16.50 an hour and some have good benefits.

I have been around the block working at federally funded places and non profit clinics.
