What is the cut off age to join the reserves

Published

Hi everyone,

Hopefully I will receive my RN License by the time I turn 46 and was interested in joining Airforce or Navy reserves. Is there a cutoff age for a nurse in the reserves?

Specializes in critical care: trauma/oncology/burns.

Hello Rholman!

I can not speak for the Navy or the Air Force, but to join the Army Reserves you must have your AD and no older than 47.5 years of age. BUT, but there is always the good ol' waiver, in this case one may request an age waiver. {{Which is what I did and I took the Oath at the grand young age of 49}}

Good Luck to you!

Thank You Athena, I was viewing the website for Nurses Corp and one of the requirements is you must have a BA degree in Nursing. The Army reserve only requires an Associates Degree in Nursing? That is so great, I can't believe the options you have as a Nurse. I might be joining you in a few years:yeah:

Yeahh!

Hi Rholman,

I'm 53 and the Army is waiving my age for the Reserves. I think it depends on your specialty and their need, though. I'm a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner/Clinical Nurse Specialist and they're in dire need d/t PTSD.

Good Luck!
