What CPR course does a LPN need?

Published

Hello everyone! I'm in the search for a CPR program.. I found one website that has CPR classes (the classes are in Manhattan) It would be no trouble for me to get there

This is the website: http://www.cprschoolny.com/home.php

Out of the classes listed there, which one do I need to take?

Does a LPN need the CPR/BLS class

or the HeartSaver CPR/AED class

or the Heartsaver First Aid w/ CPR/AED

Im confused on what class it is that a LPN needs.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

CPR/BLS class....................is what is required. I take it every 2 years, to remain working. I live in New York State too.

Specializes in Hem/Onc/BMT.

Just make sure it says "for healthcare professionals."

I've had HeartSaver (I'm in California) without knowing the difference. It was okay for my nursing home job but wasn't accepted for nursing school and hospitals.

You're going to need to take a BLS class that is designed for the Healthcare Provider. Most of the content will be the same as other courses, but you're going to get additional instruction in use of a BVM. Additionally, the healthcare provider version usually also certifies you in the use of an AED. Those things are covered under typical Good Sam laws, but in your professional capacity, you'd better be certified in their use as Good Sam law doesn't apply typically while working.

Thanks a lot for your input!

Hi Michelle, there are CPR courses for various walks of life. You will need a healthcare provider CPR class. If Red Cross is accepted, you'll be looking for CPR for Professional Rescuers. If American Heart Association is required, you will want Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers. Here is a site that has information for the AHA BLS course: Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA CPR Certification, BLS, First Aid, Safety Training I hope this helps!
