What classes to combine with BIO/CHM classes if working full-time?

Published

I work full-time and am a pre nursing student. I'm about to start getting into my science classes and am trying to figure out how to divide them evenly without going crazy.

I have: General Biology, General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Microbiology, A&P, and Human Physiology.

1. Is it possible to take any of one of these during a summer semester if it is the ONLY class you're taking?

2. I heard it's possible to do General bio and general chem in on semester? Any truth to that? What about the other bios and chems I mentioned, can either of them be combined if they are the only two you are taking for one full semester?

My first semester of college I took general chem I, and A&P I with Texas Govt and History Post-1865. I also worked about 35 hours a week as a waitress but I don't have any other obligations (no kiddos here).

I got an A in all those classes. It was doable but rough sometimes since I was taking two writing intensive courses.

I also took A&P 2 over a 5-week summer session. totally doable and I prefer that because you will only have to focus on that one class as opposed to 3-4 others.

if you don't mind me asking what college are you attending? I have not seen many nursing degrees that require o-chem.

I would suggest taking gen bio and chem first, perhaps this semester, than a&p 1 during summer 1 and a&p 2 during summer 2, then gen chem II in the fall, then o-chem in the spring of next year and perhaps o-chem 2 in the summer if you did well in o-chem 1.

I took A&P with lab and micro together while working 3 12's a week and it worked out fine for me. I find the less time you have the more likely you are to use your available time bc you won't be procrastinating.

texasgirl,

I'm attending Long Island University, the Brooklyn campus, in NYC. The only prerequisite science courses they require for nursing are:

General Biology 1, General Biology 2, General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Microbiology, A&P, and Human Physiology. Just those 7.

So for Spring 2014, I only signed up for General Bio 1 just to get a taste of what that's like. Aside from that I'm taking two relatively easy non-science classes with it.

So based on what I'm hearing, I guess it won't hurt if I took General Bio 2 in Summer 1, then Microbio in Summer 2. But for Fall 2014, does taking A&P plus General Chemistry sound like a good idea while working full time? I mean, if it's just those 2 classes and no 3rd class.
