What are my chances of getting into a nursing school?

Published

I'm an undergrad senior right now in NYC and I've been looking through nursing forums to get an idea of what my chances for getting accepted into nursing school might be like. I am considering schools like Columbia and NYU but I know some schools focus on GPAs more than others. However, my grades for the prerequisites are not the most sought after by nursing schools, in my opinion (I know schools go after the cream of the crop and therefore I'm afraid to apply and get rejected for not fitting the bill 😔). I have an overall GPA of 3.17 at the moment, mainly because I failed orgo some years ago, but I plan to retake orgo this spring semester and replace my grade with an A so that I can graduate with at least a 3.3 and maybe even a 3.4 counting other courses (I know that's probably wishful thinking but I am determined). Anyway, I am really concerned and anxious about the issues my prerequisite grades might pose. I received a C+ in A&P 2, B+ in Gen Chem, B in A&P 1 and Developmental Psych, A- in Gen Chem lab and Nutrition, and A in statistics. Orgo and Microbiology are yet to be determined as I haven't taken them yet, but so far with those B's and C's that I have, especially in the AP classes, how good or bad are my chances? Is there anyone else who had similar grades? What was your experience? Also, I've been planning to do volunteering and to become certified as a CNA, but I would really appreciate any new suggestions on what I should do to make myself a better candidate for acceptance if my grades don't seem to be enough. I thank you all very much in advance!!

Im trying to get into nursing school now and from what I've seen on the websites they don't take well to grades that are Cs. Maybe you could retake those courses?
