What Canadian program qualifies as ADN in U.S.?

Published

Hi nurse Betty

This is an irrelevant topic but I really need some guidance. I am in the lpn program in edmonton finishing in 2 months. I also have 2 years in the BScN program in Ontario that I took before my lpn program (ps did fail two classes) was going through some things. Anyways I am wondering with my 2 years lpn diploma and my 2 years rn education could be qualified as an ADN in the states. If so which state would be easier for me than perhaps maybe later i can do an endorsement to a state I want to live. Plz help guide me.

When you took the LPN in Ontario, was it the US NCLEX-PN exam? 2 years of a BSN program does not qualify you to be an ADN.

Nowhere in the US will two years of a BSN program qualify you as having an ADN degree, and the fact that you are in the LPN program won't change that either. The only way to get an ADN in the US is to graduate from an ADN program.

You could try to use the credits earned in your BScN program and see if any transfer over to an ADN program, but I guarantee that you will still have to take courses in order to graduate.

Sorry if this isn't what you wanted to hear.

i am taking the two year lpn program right now finishing in 2 months. I just have the first two years of the bscn program.

You still won't have the equivalent of a US ADN.

If you are bent on working in the US, I see four ways you can do this:

1. Drop the BScN program and enroll in a US ADN program

2. Transfer from a BScN program to a US BSN program

3. Complete the BScN program, then endorse into the US as a RN

4. Complete the LPN program and see if you can endorse into the US a LPN. From there, you can do a bridge program to get your RN license.

yea i see that. i just cant believe that all the courses i took in the bscn is useless to me now, especially when i compare my courses to an adn in the states and i have every single course they require. btw i am not in the bscn program since 2014, thats what i originally took and had to drop and to go into the lpn program that im finishing in few months. but thanks for the advice

Well, those courses may not be useless if you decided to enroll in an ADN or BSN/bridge program. It won't make a drastic time difference, but it may eliminate a lot of the pre/co-requisite courses that would have to take for these programs.
