What can I do to stay productive and not lose my nursing skills before my residency program starts

I FINALLY got accepted into a residency program on a GI/oncology unit. I'm extremely excited, however, the program doesn't start until June, and I graduated in January. Any advice for what I should be doing in between now and then? I really don't feel like I can wait that long, however, I know that it's the right thing to do.

handydandy, EMT-B

Specializes in EMT/Urgent Care. Has 6 years experience.

See about volunteering at a Fire Department. You might have to take a couple of NIMS certs. first. Or, see if you can do ride out's with an ambulance company.

Nurse SMS, MSN, RN

Specializes in Critical Care; Cardiac; Professional Development. Has 10 years experience.

You don't have much in the way of skills yet to lose if you are a new grad. It will all come back to you. Don't sweat it.
