What is the best way...

to go about studying in prep for re-taking the NCLEX-RN.

My looong story is in the "Inactive RN" forum, but thought I'd ask here. Been out of nursing (never actually went in) since 1995 (graduated, took boards, passed, and been home with kids since then).

Know I have to take refreshers, etc. and I'm sure I'll have to retake the NCLEX.

Should I pull out my old textbooks and notes (my nursing binders from school have been sitting so long they have a sticky coating on them, lol)? Or is there a better way/better books to use. Any particular books or study programs (I'm thinking self-study and online right now) that you would recommend?

I plan to devote about 6 months of self-study, then will probably take NCLEX prep courses, etc. After getting RN back, will take the refresher/reentry course/clinicals.

Hi and welcome to the site

I am going to move this to the NCLEX forum where you will find much in the way of help on studying for the exam. I would personally get the latest Saunders book and consider Suzanne's plan. All info regarding her first tip etc can be found in the stickies in the NCLEX forum

If you graduated in 1995- I'd buy some updated books to study. A lot has likely changed in 13 years!

I wish you luck in taking your NCLEX and getting back into nursing!:nurse:

Thanks!

It's daunting, but I'll be taking it one day at a time. I just bought "Nursing Fundamentals Made Easy" to start. I'll go through that, and review my old textbooks to start.
