What is the best way to obtain CEU provider to teach end of life care as an NP

Published

I have been teaching end of life care for 4 years. I am an NP that works in hospice and palliative care. I want to offer CEUs but not sure how to get certified for my content that doesn't cost thousands! Any advice would be appreciated!! -Katrina

You will need to get the course approved for CE at the appropriate level. If you are only going to be providing the course in your state (and those immediately surrounding it), you can go through your own state nursing association (not BON). If you are planning on a wider audience, you will need to get the offering approved at the national (ANA) level.

Getting a course approved is a complex and somewhat tedious process. I would recommend that you look up the list of approved providers in your area and see if one of them will agree to be a 'co sponsor' with you. There should be a list on your state association web site. This would be the easiest route, because they can provide all the know-how and process expertise you are going to need. Depending upon the terms of the agreement, your partner could also take responsibility for issuing certificates & maintaining records.

If you are going to do it on your own, there should be some guidance on your state nursing association's website - e.g., forms, procedures, etc. It won't cost 'thousands', but there will be a charge. It will probably also take at least 6 weeks.

Thank You! That was helpful- I have made headway! K
