What did you ask/look at when you visited nursing schools?

What are some important things to look at during a visit to a BSN program you might enroll in?

Cost was a major concern of mine. I also asked about their student's NCLEX passing rate. I knew where I wanted to go, so I didn't visit a whole lot of schools.

Specializes in Med/Surg.

NCLEX pass rate, cost, distance from home, facilities, graduation rate are all good things to know. I lucked out and am graduating this year from a state college BSN program with about a 96% pass rate and tuition of about $6000/year.

NCLEX pass rate

% of graduates who had job offers at graduation

cost

average loan debt of graduates

distance you will need to drive for clinicals

accreditation status

talk to current students about student life, if faculty are approachable, how problems are addressed, etc

how integrated are BSN students with other students at the college (or are you off in your own silo)

Graduation rate

NCLEX passage rate

Cost

Length of program

Accredidation

Whether they have an RN bridge program (if your looking at LPN programs)

Also, when your away from the school officials, try to ask the students what they think of the program.
