What is an appropriate salary to ask for?

Published

Hi all! I will be graduating from nursing school in December! YAY! I am currently employed at a doctor's office as a Medical Assistant and have voiced my want to stay here after graduation as an RN. I am very excited about this because I absolutely love it here..the docs are amazing and all my co-workers are a joy.

Now here's my question..I am obviously going to ask for more money once I am an RN, but I don't want to overstep it and ask for too much.

Can any of you shine some light on this subject for me? What would an appropriate salary be?

Any advise is appreciated!! Thanks again!!

Check salary.com. You can enter your zip code, and it will tell you about how much RNs make. Do take into mind that you will be a VERY new RN. Congrats on finishing school!!:nurse:

also keep in mind that office nurses make a bunch less than bedside nurses in hospitals.

Yes, you will make considerably less in a Doctor's office. I assume they know about your situation? Why don't you ask what you may expect. That will give you a starting point for negotiating. Does the office currently utilize RN's? Just wondering if they have a plan in place for you when you graduate.

Congratulations and good luck.

We have one RN on staff right now, but we are expanding by the day and we will be starting to do more clinical work within the office so another RN will be needed. I know the office to well off, so I have a number in mind but I was just wondering what you all thought an appropriate salary would be to see if I was on point.

Thanks for the response thus far!!!
