Doesn't failing the NCLEX void an interim permit anyway?

You will probably have to work as an extern or an aide until you can retake boards. On my unit if you fail boards, you automatically become an aide until you can retake.

I live in NY and I have not taken the NCLEX RN yet, but to my understanding, if you fail you can only work as a GN For 10 days and then you have to tech. The interim permit would be void. Good luck!
What do you mean? Can I apply for an interim permit in NY?

I live in KY and one of my best friends flunked his NCLEX and immediately had to surrender his priviledges and work as a tech until he passed.

I am pretty sure, no matter where you are, your permit is no longer valid if you fail the NCLEX.
"A limited permit is valid for one year from date of issue or until ten days after the applicant is notified of failure on the licensing examination, whichever occurs first. "
This is what is written on the New York State Board of nursing webpage which is what colleennurse was saying.

If you fail, no working as a nurse, permit or not. You need to retake and pass the NCLEX_RN first. If the waiting period is too long for you to wait, you can take the NCLEX-PN, and if you pass, you can work as an LPN until you retake the NCLEX_RN.

In NY your permit is good for one year. If you take and fail your exam within that time, it is void. Study and Retake the test again. Good luck.

Not if you've already failed the NCLEX. You will have to wait and take the NCLEX again. What I was saying in my earlier post is even if you HAD gotten an interim permit, it would not be any good after you failed the NCLEX exam, so it doesn't matter that you didn't get it before you tested - you still wouldn't be able to use it as it would no longer be valid.
